EU cars

A vehicle bought in another EU Member State is normally not treated like a third-country customs import when it is brought to Bulgaria. The key question is usually VAT and documentation, not customs duty.

Pal Cars checks the seller, invoice, VAT status and registration documents before the buyer approves the vehicle.

New vs used for VAT

For VAT purposes, a car can be considered new if it has been in use for no more than 6 months or has driven no more than 6,000 km. If either condition applies, the VAT treatment can be different from a standard used car.

A used car is usually older than 6 months and over 6,000 km, but the exact treatment depends on the seller and invoice.

Non-EU cars

A car bought outside the EU, such as from the UK, Switzerland, the USA or Japan, is a real customs import. It can involve customs duty, VAT and formal customs clearance through a licensed customs agent.

This can still be worth it for some vehicles, but the calculation must be done before the commitment.

How Pal Cars helps

Pal Cars prepares the full cost picture: vehicle price, transport, VAT/customs where applicable, registration costs and the service fee. Nothing proceeds without buyer approval.

Note: This is general information, not tax or legal advice. The specific listing, seller, invoice and document set must be checked.
